Pouch seal integrity on high-speed lines
How seal temperature, pressure, and dwell time interact—and what to document during qualification.
Seal failures often trace back to process windows that looked fine in the lab but drift on the plant floor. For flexible pouches, treat seal strength as a system property of film, die geometry, and machine settings.
During line trials
- Record jaw temperature, pressure, and dwell for each lot.
- Pull destructive seal tests from leading and trailing edges, not only the center.
- Photograph seal appearance (wrinkles, channel leaks, incomplete melt).
What to ask your film supplier
Whether the structure is optimized for pulse heat or constant heat sealing, and the recommended seal initiation temperature range. Mismatch here is a common source of “we changed nothing” field complaints.
